Young Ones Trying to Have Young Ones
Posted on June 5, 2009
June 18th was an awesome day for my family. God blessed us with twin babies, Wilson Alan and Elli Pete. The entire day was a major undertaking, mainly for Brandy of course. We had to get Jack to the babysitter and set our alarms for 4 a.m. We got up and headed to the hospital expecting the birth of our children. We did not know what to expect, except that we were going to see two children brought into the world. Our responsibility ended when we put ourselves at the mercy of the professionals at the hospital. We had done all we could do and now it was up to the surgeon and nurses to bring growth to the popoulation of our family. The birth of man through the efforts of parents is a picture of the new birth of the sinner though the efforts of the soul winner. Our God is responsible for bringing growth to our spiritual family. When we have done all we can do by being faithful to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, it is up to God to bring the increase. Only God can save.
Our gimmicks will not work, Scripture and then some will not work, our methods will not work, and even a Lifeway proagram will not work. When we believe that preaching and teaching the Word of God is sufficient to reach ANY generation we will then and only then exhibit true faithfulness in the God who saves.Â
My plea is to the younger generation of ministers. Please do not buy the lie that you have to “know” what the community needs in order to reach them. The only thing we need to “know” and can “know” is that the majority of our community needs a follower of Jesus Christ to have the guts to trust God enough to expect Him to save somebody when we tell them about Jesus. The birth of a new believer has not changed. Men plant and water, but God gives the increase. Fellas, please trust the Holy Spirit of God in your endeavors to reach all generations of lost people, to draw, convict and seal the souls of the lost.Â
We do not need a new approach, we need to reapproach the God who saved us and repent of our unbelief in His ability to save those to whom we witness.
