God Uses Old People Too!

Posted on August 12, 2008

I use the term “old people” with great respect.  I believe it is a blessed thing to be old.  I pray that God has ordained that I get to be an “old person” someday.  Our churches are full of the older generations and we all can be blessed by their continued service in the Kingdom of God.

I have a heavy, but happy heart this week.  I lost a dear friend last week and I have yet to fully accept that he is not here on earth anymore.  My brother in Christ, Cooper Bryant, died last week.  He was an “old person”.  An “old person” who God used in an awesome way in the last 14 months of his life.  Brother Cooper was the one who listened to God’s leading and called me about the ministry here at SweetWater.  He asked me to pray about the possibility of me taking the pastor position.  Long story short, I prayed and God did the impossible by making a way for my family to come to Waycross.

Cooper Bryant made a phone call that God is still using to change the lives of many people.  When Cooper died we were scheduled to baptize the 24th person since he listened to God and called me.  I know I am bordering on taking the credit for what only God deserves.  I might even sound like I am giving Cooper too much credit.  Please hear my heart as you read this blog.  I know that only God can bring the increase to the work that we do, but we have the responsibility of planting and watering.  The planting and watering that Cooper did has been used by God to increase the family here at SweetWater by 600% in the last 14 months.

You are never too old to be used by God.  Brother Cooper Bryant understood that as long as he was breathing God had something for him to do.  No one gets a free pass to drift into Christian obscurity based on their age.  Brother Cooper would tell you to get off your rear end and do something for Jesus.  The time is short.  Will you be found busy?
