Who said black folks don’t want to worship Jesus with me?

Have you ever wondered why we have “white” churches and “black” churches?  I wonder why we don’t just have churches.  Oh yeah, for some reason we don’t worship together.  Why don’t we worship together?  Oh yeah, us white people have bought the lie that black folks don’t really want to worship with us.  That is interesting, because I have never heard a black person say that they will not worship with me because they don’t want to worship with me.  As a matter of fact I have recently been in several homes that are occupied by black people and they have told me they would come and worship at the church I pastor.  By the way you don’t get much whiter than me.  I have come to an understanding that black folks don’t mind worshipping with white folks, but we make ourselves feel better by believing they do.  You know it is kind of like when you are the “ugly guy” and you ask out the “pretty girl” and she says “no”.  You, “ugly guy”, talk yourself into believing that “pretty girl” is not all that pretty after all.  That way “ugly guy” does not have to deal with the fact that he is ugly.  I am afraid too many white Christians make the excuse that black Christians would not want to go to church with us even if we did ask.  Therefore we have an excuse not to invite people who do not look like us.  After all who really wants to admit that they are ugly?  We all want to be satisfied that we are good people.  But I believe it is time we own up to our “ugliness”.  My white brothers and sisters, it is time that we repent of our racist mindsets before God and begin to love all men and women.  The excuses we make must stop.  Our churches are too made of all people, not just our people.  Let us change our attitudes and live lives that make Jesus Christ proud of us.
